The United Kingdom is a signatory to the Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs and on the Special Equipment to be Used for such Carriage ('ATP')1, which is implemented in United Kingdom law by the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs Act 19762. The Act empowers the Secretary of State3 to make regulations4 as to the standards for transport equipment5 used or intended to be used for the international carriage6 of perishable foodstuffs7 by road or rail, or by a sea crossing of less than 150 kilometres, or any combination of them8.
