588. Liability of the performing carrier and maintenance of insurance.

Pursuant to the Athens Convention as amended by the 2002 Protocol¹, if the performance of the carriage² or part thereof has been entrusted to a performing carrier³, the carrier nevertheless remains liable for the entire carriage according to the provisions of the Athens Convention⁴. In addition, the performing carrier is subject and entitled to the provisions of the Convention for the part of the carriage performed by him⁵. Any special agreement under which the carrier assumes obligations not imposed by the Convention or any waiver of rights conferred by the Convention affects the performing carrier only if agreed by
