187. Duration of time charterparty: early redelivery.

Redelivery before the stipulated date is a repudiatory breach of contract, for which the charterer will be liable in damages. These will normally be based on the difference between the charter and market rates to the end of the charter1. But if it is clear that the charter would have come to an end earlier, for example by the exercise by the charterer of an option to terminate, then account will be taken of this as a matter reducing the owner's loss
