304. Amount of cargo.

A voyage charterparty may contain a term relating to the quantity of cargo which is to be shipped1, as, in the absence of any such term, the charterer cannot be compelled to ship any particular quantity2. The term must be complied with substantially but not precisely3. It is, in practice, often modified by the introduction of qualifying words, for example 'about' or 'more or less'4, or 'more or less at owners' option'5. The effect of these words may differ according to the context6. More usually the term provides that the charterer is to ship a full and complete cargo7,
