54.     Building regulations relating to fire safety.

Building regulations may make provision for fire precautions including structural measures to resist the spread of fire, services to mitigate effects of fire or facilitate fire-fighting and means of escape in case of fire1. Building work must be carried out so that it complies with fire safety requirements2. Where there is a material change of use, work must be carried out to ensure that the building complies with requirements relating to means of warning and escape, internal and external fire spread3.
