460. Compliance with statutes, byelaws and other legal requirements.

It is part of the duty of an architect or engineer to ascertain and to comply with the requirements of all relevant public and local statutes and with all subsidiary legislation1, such as byelaws and the building regulations2, made under them3. Ignorance or disregard of the legal requirements as to buildings may result not only in a fine on the employer, but also in an order for the whole or part of the building to be pulled down4, and the architect or engineer would be liable to his employer for the loss so incurred5.
