The principal contracts for construction work now contain extensive provisions whereby amounts may be recovered under the contract in respect of events which might or might not otherwise have been breaches of contract1. Such amounts are generally assessed as if they were damages. It is a matter of the interpretation of each contract whether such provisions are supplementary to or in lieu of a right to recover damages
