127. The principal functions of the BBC Board.

The principal functions of the BBC Board are stated in the Charter1.

Accordingly, the Board must:

  1.  

    (1)     ensure that the BBC fulfils its mission and promotes the public purposes2 by, in particular, setting:

    1.  

      (a)     the strategic direction for the BBC within the framework set by the Charter and the Framework Agreement3;

    2.  

      (b)     the creative remit (including the direction of the BBC's editorial and creative output and services and in regard to the nations and regions of the United Kingdom)4;

    3.  

      (c)     the budgets for the UK Public Services and the World Service5;

    4.  

      (d)     a framework to assess the performance of the
