Under the BBC's Royal Charter and Framework Agreement1, the only activities that may be carried out by the BBC are2:
(1) provision of the UK Public Services3;
(2) provision of the World Service4;
(3) non-service activities5;
(4) through commercial subsidiaries, commercial activities6;
(5) trading activities7; and
(6) activities that the BBC is required to carry out by the Framework Agreement (the 'specified activities')8.
The activities referred to in heads (1) to (6) above must be carried out in accordance with the terms of the BBC's Charter and the Framework Agreement9.
