339. Restrictions on broadcasting party political matters or broadcasting during election periods.

At any time, a broadcaster is prohibited from including in its broadcasting services any party political broadcast made on behalf of a party which is not a registered party under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 20001.

During election periods, broadcasting is controlled by statute which, for instance, requires each broadcasting authority to adopt a code of practice with respect to local items that include the participation of candidates at a parliamentary or local government election2.
