For the purposes Part IV of the Broadcasting Act 19961, a listed event is a sporting or other event of national interest2 which is for the time being included in a list drawn up by the Secretary of State3 for such purposes4. The Act provides for consultation before a list is drawn up or revised, and before it ceases to be maintained5. As soon as he has drawn up or revised such a list, the Secretary of State must publish the list in such manner as he considers appropriate for bringing it to the attention of the persons consulted6,
