462. Statutory meaning of 'British overseas territories citizenship by descent'.

As with British citizenship1, a person who is a British overseas territories citizen2 by descent does not as a general rule automatically pass that citizenship to his or her children3; and British overseas territories citizenship 'by descent' is a term of art, with an exhaustive statutory definition4. By statute, the following British overseas territories citizens are British overseas territories citizens by descent:

    (1)     a person born outside the British overseas territories5 on or after 1 January 19836 who is a British overseas territories citizen by virtue only of his father or mother being at the time of the birth7 a British overseas territories citizen otherwise than by descent8;
