A person who on 31 December 19821 was a citizen of the United Kingdom and colonies2, and who satisfied one of a number of conditions connecting him with a British overseas territory3, became a British overseas territories citizen4 on 1 January 19835. The conditions were as follows, namely that:
(1) he acquired his citizenship of the United Kingdom and colonies by birth, naturalisation6 or registration in a British overseas territory7;
(2) at the time of his birth one of his parents8 was a citizen of the United Kingdom and colonies by birth, naturalisation or registration in a British overseas
