445.     Acquisition by registration: special cases.

A number of statutory provisions extended certain entitlements to registration under the previous nationality law for limited periods to enable those satisfying the conditions to register as British citizens, but the periods during which applications for such registration could be made have now expired1. Those provisions dealt with: (1) registration of certain Commonwealth or Irish citizens who had been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom for a minimum of five years (and in some cases Crown service, or other relevant service, was treated as ordinary residence in the United Kingdom)2
