431. Acquisition by birth, adoption, descent and abandonment.

A person born in the United Kingdom1 on or after 1 January 19832 or in a qualifying territory3 on or after 21 May 20024 is a British citizen if5 at the time of the birth6 his father or mother7 is a British citizen8, or settled in the United Kingdom or that territory9. There is a rebuttable presumption that a new-born infant who is found abandoned in the United Kingdom or who is found on or after 21 May 2002 in a qualifying territory fulfils these qualifications10.
