Hire1 is a class of bailment. It is a contract by which the hirer obtains the right to use the chattel hired in return for the payment to the owner of the price of the hiring2. The general property in the chattel is not changed, but remains in the owner3, although upon delivery the hirer becomes legally possessed of the chattel hired4, so that if it is lent for a time certain, even the true owner is debarred during that time from resuming possession against the hirer's will and, should he do so, becomes liable in damages for the
