229. Bailee's right to sue.

Subject to the statutory right of a defendant in a claim for wrongful interference with goods to show that a third person has a better right than the claimant as respects all or any part of the interest claimed by the claimant, or in right of which he sues1, the bailee of a chattel under any species of bailment may at common law sue for the tort of trespass or conversion or maintain a claim for damages for the destruction of, or injury to, the chattel against the wrongdoer in all cases in which an absolute owner of a
