The Secretary of State1 has power to establish and maintain aerodromes2 for the purposes of civil aviation3 and to provide and maintain roads, approaches, apparatus, equipment, buildings and other accommodation in connection with such aerodromes4.
He may, for the purposes of his functions connected with civil aviation, acquire land by agreement or be authorised to acquire land compulsorily5, and he may authorise the Civil Aviation Authority to acquire land compulsorily for any purpose in connection with the performance of its functions6.
