The Armed Forces and Reserve Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) was introduced in 20051 and provides for the payment of benefit2 to or in respect of a member or former member of the forces3 by reason of an injury4 which is caused (wholly or partly) by service as a member of the forces where the cause of the injury occurred on or after 6 April 20055. Where injury is not wholly caused by service, benefit is only payable if service is the predominant6 cause of the injury7.
