A person may be enlisted to serve in the regular army on one of the following types of engagement: (1) short service; (2) versatile; or (3) local service1. A person who enlists on a short service engagement is enlisted for a term which expires on a date falling between six months and 12 years after the date of his enlistment2.
A person who enlists on a versatile engagement is enlisted for a term which expires 12 years after the date of his enlistment3, unless he enlists in a corps which the competent military authority4 has approved for this purpose in
