Under the pre-2005 scheme1, in addition to the appropriate rate of pension calculated by reference to the degree of disablement and rank of the pensioner2, special allowances may be paid subject to satisfaction of the appropriate conditions3. Thus allowances may be awarded for eligible members of the family4.
A member of the armed forces in receipt of retired pay or a pension in respect of disablement whose degree of disablement is not less than 80 per cent and who is in need of constant attendance may be granted a constant attendance allowance5, the rate of which varies with the severity
