In pursuance of Defence Council1 regulations2, recruits may be enlisted for service in a particular corps3, or for general service4. In the latter case the recruit may be assigned to such corps as the competent military authority5 thinks fit, but, if he has enlisted before attaining the age of 18, he need not be appointed to a corps until he reaches that age. Any transfer from the corps to which a soldier is appointed, if not by the orders of a member of the Army Board, must be with the soldier's consent, unless a state of war exists or
