Members of the armed forces in their capacity as such are exempted from requiring a certificate1 for the possession of firearms2, and may purchase or acquire firearms and ammunition for the public service without holding a certificate, provided they have written authorisation3. These exemptions and privileges apply also to members of visiting forces or international headquarters4. Members of any foreign force5 when they are serving with any of the naval, military or air forces of Her Majesty and members of any cadet corps approved by the Secretary of State6 may also possess prohibited weapons or prohibited ammunition
