A person may be enlisted in the Royal Navy for a term beginning with the date of his enlistment and ending 12 years after that date1. Alternatively, a person may be enlisted for a term expiring on a date falling between six months and 11 years after the date of his enlistment2. A rating3 who is serving for a term of four or more years will have a right to be transferred to the reserve4 if he notifies his commanding officer in writing of his desire to be transferred to the reserve and such written notification is given more
