The Defence Council1, or an officer authorised by it, may make an order authorising a deduction to be made from the pay of a relevant person2 and to be appropriated in or towards satisfaction of:
(1) a payment which he is required to make under a maintenance order3 of a court in the United Kingdom or the Sovereign Base Areas, but such an order may only authorise a deduction to be made on or after the date on which the payment is required to be made4;
(2) a payment which he is required to make under a maintenance order
