246. Deserters and absentees without leave surrendering to civilian police.

Where a person who is subject to service law1 has deserted2 or is absent without leave3 and surrenders to a civilian policeman4 at a place in the relevant territory5 he must be taken to a police station6 and the person in charge of the police station, or a person authorised by him, must consider the case7. If it appears to the person considering the case that the person who has surrendered is subject to service law and is a deserter or is absent without leave, he may arrange for him to be transferred to service custody
