41.     Death of prisoners of war.

The death or serious injury of a prisoner of war caused or suspected to have been caused by a sentry, another prisoner of war or any other person, or due to an unknown cause, is to be the subject of an official inquiry by the detaining power1. Prisoners of war must be honourably buried after death; wills must be transmitted to the protecting power, and death certificates must be forwarded to the prisoners of war information bureau2.
