This title is concerned primarily with the law relating to the Arbitration Act 1996 (the 'new law')1. The 'old law' means various enactments2 amended and repealed by the Arbitration Act 1996, as they stood before their amendment or repeal by that Act3.
The old law applies to:
(1) arbitral proceedings commenced before 31 January 19974;
(2) arbitration applications5 commenced or made before 31 January 19976; and
(3) arbitration applications commenced or made on or after 31 January 1997 relating to arbitral proceedings commenced before 31 January 19977,
and the provisions of the Arbitration Act 1996 which would otherwise be applicable do
