553. Power to secure the attendance of witnesses.

A party1 to arbitral proceedings may use the same court procedures as are available in relation to legal proceedings2 to secure the attendance before the arbitral tribunal3 of a witness in order to give oral testimony or to produce documents or other material evidence4. This may only be done with the permission of the tribunal or the agreement of the other parties5. The court procedures may only be used if:


    (1)     the witness is in the United Kingdom6; and


    (2)     the arbitral proceedings are being conducted in England, Wales or, as the case may be, Northern Ireland7.
