542. Jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal over third parties.

Since arbitration is based on the principle of consensual submission of a dispute for resolution1, a third party (that is, a person who is not a party to the relevant arbitration agreement) may not be brought into the arbitration proceedings by one party unilaterally, in contrast to the position in litigation generally2. A third party may only be joined in an arbitration with the consent of all the parties to the agreement. The power under the
