The Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (commonly known as 'ASCOBANS')1 is concerned with the conservation and management of small cetaceans2 in the relevant areas3. The agreement covers:
(1) habitat conservation and management4;
(2) surveys and research5;
(3) the use of by-catches and strandings6;
(4) the introduction of domestic legislation by the parties7;
