Any person who is not a registered veterinary surgeon1 or a registered veterinary practitioner2 and who practises or holds himself out as practising or as being prepared to practise veterinary surgery3, is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding the prescribed sum4 and on conviction on indictment to a fine5. This provision does not, however, operate to prohibit:
(1) the carrying out of any procedure duly authorised under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 19866;
(2) any treatment given to an animal7 by its owner or another member of his household or by a person in the employment
