There is an annual close season for grey seals1 extending from 1 September to 31 December, both inclusive, and an annual close season for common seals2 extending from 1 June to 31 August, both inclusive3. Where, after consultation with the United Kingdom Research and Innovation4, it appears to the appropriate authority5 necessary for the proper conservation of seals, that authority may by order6 prohibit, with respect to any specified area, the killing, injuring or taking of both or either species of seal7
