In general, offences under the Deer Act 1991 are punishable on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding level 4 on the standard scale1, imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or both2. Where such an offence under the Act is committed in respect of more than one deer the maximum fine is determined as if the person convicted had been convicted of a separate offence in respect of each deer3. Proceedings for an offence under the Act may be brought within the period of six months beginning with the date on which evidence sufficient in the opinion
