Provision is made1 for the identification of equines2 by means of an identification document ('ID') or a smart card and a transponder3 implanted into the equine4. A person who transfers the ownership of an equine to another person (the 'transferee') must provide that equine's ID to the transferee at the time of the transfer, and the transferee must, within 30 days (1) notify the issuing body the transfer of ownership, and the transferee's name, address and contact details; and (2) send the ID for the equine concerned to the issuing body5.
