The introduction of specified endangered species into the EU is subject to controls, the stringency of which depends on the classification of the species in question.
Species listed in Annex A may be so introduced only on the completion of the necessary checks, and the prior presentation, at the border customs office at the point of introduction, of an import permit issued by a management authority1 of the member state of destination2. The issue of import permits is conditional on:
(1) advice given by the competent scientific authority3 (after considering any opinion by the Scientific Review Group)4;
(2) the provision
