The appropriate authority has power to appoint inspectors for the purposes of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 having such medical or veterinary qualifications as it thinks requisite1.
An inspector's duties include advising the appropriate authority on applications for licences2 under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 on requests for their variation, revocation or periodical review and also to comply with any direction given by the appropriate authority under the following provisions3.
The appropriate authority may give a direction4 to an inspector which:
(1) specifies the holder of a licence under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 19865;
(2) requires the inspector
