The following provisions are not yet in force unless otherwise stated. An item that has ivory in it is exempt from the prohibition if the item is a pre-1918 portrait miniature with a surface area of no more than 320 cm² and it is registered1. An item that has ivory in it is exempt from the prohibition if (1) the item is pre-1947, (2) all the ivory in the item is integral to it, (3) the volume of ivory in the item is less than 10 per cent of the total volume of the material of which the item
