It is the duty of the police force of each police area to execute and enforce the Animal Health Act 1981 and orders made by the appropriate authority under that Act1. A constable2 may, without warrant, stop and detain a person who is seen or found committing, or is reasonably suspected of being engaged in committing, an offence against the Act3. In addition the constable may stop, detain and examine any animal, vehicle, boat or thing to which the suspected offence relates, and require it to be taken back to any place from which it was unlawfully removed
