Three new Bills relating to animal welfare were announced in the Queen's Speech on 11 May 2021: the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill; the Kept Animals Bill; and the Animals Abroad Bill.
The Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill was laid before parliament on 13 May 2021. This Bill makes provision for an Animal Sentience Committee which will produce reports and recommendations on government policy affecting the welfare of animals as sentient beings.
