416. Controls on import of ruminating animals, swine and elephants.

The importation of cattle, sheep, goats and all other ruminating animals and swine and elephants1 is regulated by order2. The landing3 of any such animal is prohibited except under a licence (general or specific) granted by the appropriate authority, which may contain conditions designed to prevent disease and protect animals from unnecessary suffering4. A licence is also required for animals on board a vessel which enters a harbour even if the animals are not landed5.
