42. Compensation for offence of killing or damaging an animal.

The general power of a court by or before which a person is convicted of an offence to make a compensation order1 applies in relation to the offence of destroying or damaging property, including an animal2. Where the person is convicted of such an offence, the court, instead of or in addition to dealing with him in any other way, may, on application or otherwise3, make a compensation order requiring him to pay compensation for any loss or damage resulting from that offence or from any other offence which is taken into account by the court in determining sentence
