423.     Power to make grants.

Financial assistance may be given to farmers in accordance with the provisions of the Agriculture Act 1970, 1which authorise the making of schemes for the payment of grants towards capital expenditure incurred or to be incurred for the purposes of or in connection with the carrying on of an agricultural business2. While these provisions remain in force, those major schemes that have been implemented by statutory instrument under them have now mostly lapsed or been superseded by others introduced under the European Communities
