A grant of plant breeders' rights1 has effect for 25 years from the date of the grant2, except in the case of potatoes, trees and vines, where it has effect for 30 years from that date3; the Secretary of State and the Welsh Ministers4 may, however, by regulations substitute alternative periods not exceeding 30 years for general purposes or 35 years for the purposes of potatoes, trees and vines
