The Hill Farming Act and Livestock Rearing Acts 1946 to 19591 enabled the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food2 to make grants known as 'improvement grants' in accordance with approved schemes for the rehabilitation of livestock rearing land3. The kind of improvement eligible for grant was set out in the Hill Farming Act 1946, and more improvements were added by the Livestock Rearing Act 19514. The last day for submission of proposals for all such schemes was 5 November 1963
