1. Common Agricultural Policy.

The regulation of agriculture in the United Kingdom is subject to the law of the European Union (EU)1. In particular, it is subject to the measures required to achieve the objectives of the Common Agricultural Policy ('the CAP')2.

Pillar 1 of the CAP provides for direct payments to be made to farmers3 and is made up of a basic payment4, a payment for greening5 and a payment for young farmers6 and is financed by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund ('EAGF')
