The Agricultural Holdings Act 1986 provides lifetime security of tenure for tenants by imposing restrictions on the operation of a notice to quit; in order that a landlord should not avoid these provisions the Act treats certain agreements as if they were annual tenancies1. Tenancies for fixed terms of more than one year but less than two are not protected by these provisions2.
