The Secretary of State1 has a continuing power to let2 to a local authority3, for any term, land in the New Forest4 for use as allotment gardens5, and may let such further land in the Forest, not exceeding 60 acres, as he may agree with the verderers of the Forest6. While so let, the land is free from rights of common and similar rights except the right of the public to use any highway on the land7.
