79 Prospecting for and getting petroleum

The Oil and Gas Authority (‘OGA’) on behalf of the Crown, is now responsible for the grant of exploration and production licences within Great Britain and certain areas of the continental shelf1. Such licences are granted for such consideration (whether by way of royalty or otherwise) as the OGA think fit2.

Regulations prescribe the manner in which, and the persons by whom, applications for licences under the Act may be made, and model clauses to be incorporated in any licence, unless the OGA think fit to modify
