53 Certain rent for mineral working

The object of certain rent for mineral working is to ensure that the tenant will work the mineral deposit; it also ensures a definite minimum income for the landlord. The certain rent is normally reserved in such a form as to exempt the tenant from liability for payment of further rents and royalties in respect of so much of the minerals extracted or sold from the mine or quarry as would, at the variable rent or royalty, produce the amount of the certain rent.
